Gramin Dak Sevak are working in Postal Department as a ED Employee i.e Extra Departmental Employee (EDE). They are not a regular civil servant of central government, they have separate engagement ruling. GDS are engaged in postal department on the basis of “Gramin Dak Sevak Engagement Rule 2011“. GDS are not eligible to get so called salary, they are getting Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) but after implementing of GDS Pay Committee Report the ‘TRCA’ will be converted into ‘Wages’ which is one step forward for GDS. Beside TRCA, GDS are eligible for getting some allowance and although their service status is ‘Temporary’ but they continue their service till 65 years of age. GDSePost made a simplification regarding “GDS Pay, Allowance and Service Condition” for newly engaged GDS or Applied Candidate who are willing to join as GDS in Department of Post.
Category of Gramin Dak Sevak :-
Department of Post offer 5 (five) category of GDS. They are working in various post offices in India like Branch Post office, Sub-Post Office, Head Post office and presently they working in divisional, circle and Regional office also as needed. Find out below the category of GDS.
(i) a Gramin Dak Sevak Branch Postmaster (GDS BPM)
(ii) a Gramin Dak Sevak Mail Deliverer (GDS MD)
(iii) a Gramin Dak Sevak Mail Carrier (GDS MC)
(iv) a Gramin Dak Sevak Mail Packer (GDS MP)
(v) a Gramin Dak Sevak Stamp Vendor (GDS SV)
Presently, the above three category of GDS are working in Branch Office and the below two category are in Sub-Office and Head Office.
Recommendation of Pay Committee :- GDS Pay Committee 2016 recommended only three category of GDS by merging the above five category.
- Branch Post Master (BPM)
- Assistant Branch Post Master (ABPM)
- Dak Sevak (DS)
BPM & ABPM category is design for Branch Office and DS (Dak Sevak) is for Sub-office, Head Office and other office if needed.

Pay of Gramin Dak Sevak :-
Gramin Dak Sevak’s Pay is now counted as per “R. S. Nataraja Murthy Committee 2008“. The Time Related Continuity Allowance for different categories of Gramin Dak Sevak after engagement of the concerned post is fixed as below.
- GDS BPM –

After joining, GDS can get only the 1st TRCA slab with applicable DA.
Recommendation of Pay Committee :- GDS Pay Committee 2016 recommended three wages scale is as below by merging the above mention TRCA Slab.
- Assistant Branch Postmaster/Dak Sevak Level 1, 10000-24470
- Assistant Branch Postmaster/Dak Sevak Level 2 & Branch Postmaster Level 1, 12000-29380
- Branch Postmaster Level 2, 14500-35480
This wages scale and Level 1 of concern post will be applicable as on 01.01.2016 and the admissible DA and allowance also be aded with wages after implementation of Committee Report.

GDS Pension & Leave :-
Gramin Dak Sevak shall be not be entitle to get any pension how ever they shall entitle to get paid Ex-Gratia Gratuity or any other payment as may be decided by the Government time to time.
GDS may be granted Paid Leave at the rate of 20 Days in a year without accumulation or as may be determine by the Government from time to time. GDS can also get Leave Without Allowance (LWA) at the rate of 180 days.
Recommendation of Pay Committee :- GDS Pay Committee 2016 recommended some extra Leave like Ordinary Leave 30 Days, Maternity Leave 90 Days, Paternity Leave 2 Days , Emergency Leave 5 days
Service Condition of GDS :-
As per “GDS Engagement Rule 2011” Gramin Dak Sevak’s service status is Temporary. Before three year, the Engagement of GDS shall be liable to be terminated at any time by a notice in written given either by the Sevak to the recruiting authority or by by the by the recruiting authority to the Sevak.
Note : Where the intended effect of such termination has to be immediate, it should be mention that one month Time Related Continuity Allowance plus dearness allowance as admissible is being remitted to the Sevak in lieu of notice of one month through money order.
