Tuesday on 17th April 2018, Ministry of Communications Shree Manoj Sinha lunches a DIGITAL ADVANCEMENT OF RURAL POST OFFICE FOR A NEW INDIA (DARPAN) Project(Download Press Brief on DARPAN), which aims to connect all 1.29 lakh Rural Branch Post Offices in the country, to enable them to do online Postal and Financial Transactions. The initiative, kicked off by Communications Minister Manoj Sinha, would include provision of handheld devices with cellular or SIM connectivity. Till now Hand held devices with SIM connectivity and solar power backup are being installed in all Branch Post Offices in the Country. The total Project cost is more than Rs.1300 crores. 61,941 Branch Post Offices have been rolled out under DARPAN Project.
Feature of DARPAN : The Project would enable a range of digital services in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s prestigious Digital India program to accelerate service delivery to all Indians. Check out the feature of “DARPAN.
- The goal of the project is to provide a low power technology solution (IRCT Device) to each Branch Postmaster (BPM) which will enable each of approximately 1.29 Lakhs Branch Post Offices (BOs).
- The primary business goal of the DARPAN project is to improve the quality of service, add value to services and achieve “financial inclusion” of un‐banked rural population.
- DARPAN will help in collection of premium for PLI and RPLI policies at Branch Post Offices anywhere in India, with online updation of the policies. Further, with launch of this App, indexing of maturity claims in respect of PLI and RPLI policies can be done at Branch Post Office itself.
- all financial remittances, savings accounts and Cash Certificates; improve mail operations processes by allowing for automated booking and delivery of accountable article; increase revenue using retail post business; provide third party applications and make disbursements for social security schemes such as MGNREGS.
